Hello 8th Grade Students,
This week we learned how to compare consumer documents in order to make smart purchases. We also learned how to skim and scan documents to gain meaning from these complex documents. Write a detailed paragraph that specifies the benefits and risks of skimming these documents. List two examples of how skimming is helpful and two examples of how it can be harmful.

Public and Consumer Documents
Hello 8th Grade Students!
This week we read several different types of informational texts such as public documents, memos, and consumer documents. Please explain why it is important to read and understand all sorts of texts and written material, and not just fiction. How are these documents an effective way to solve problems affecting an entire community?

Paul Revere's Ride
Hello 8th Grade Students!
Welcome to second semester! This week we read Paul Revere's Ride. In his poem, Longfellow writes,
Through all our history, to the last,
In the hour of darkness and peril and need,
The people will waken and listen to hear
The hurrying hoofbeats of that steed,
And the midnight message of Paul Revere.
Why does the poet believe that "in the hour of darkness and peril and need," Americans will remember Paul Revere's message? What significance does Paul Revere's story have today?

The Tell-Tale Heart
Hello 8th Grade Students!
This week we completed a lesson for Edgar Allan Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart." Poe once wrote that every word in a story should help create a "single overwhelming impression." How well has he done that in "The Tell-Tale Heart"? In a paragraph, describe the story's impact on you. Mention three striking details that help create this impact.

The Importance of Respect
Hello 8th Grade Students!
As you know, this month's Character Education word is "Respect." We all know how important it is to truly understand the meaning of respect. Based on the video we watched today and what you already know, please define the word "respect" in your own words. What does it mean to you? How do you show respect to others? (Parents, teachers, friends, even strangers). Do you require respect from others? If so, who? Include details in your answer.
Have a wonderful weekend!
