Anne Frank: Act II

Hello 8th Grade Students!

This week we finished reading Act I of The Diary of Anne Frank. Based on what we read, how would you describe the relationship between the Franks, Van Daans and Dussel. How are they all getting along? Is everyone happy or is there tension? Have some of them formed strong bonds and connections or are they drifting apart? Please support your answer with specific examples from the play.

Have a wonderful weekend!

  1. The Van Daans are an interesting couple, the Franks are very kind and Mr. Dussel to me is a grump. there is lots of tension going on in the loft. mr. dussel and anne arent getting along so well. the van daans bicker endlessly and the franks are trying to control anne. she is annoying everybody and everybody has had it and wants their old life back. the van daans want to get out of there the most i think because all mrs. van daan wants is to have her wealth and mr. van daan wants his ciagrettes. dussel just wantes to leave and the franks want out of there and be free. and all want to be away from anne. the only strong bond is anne and her father. (they are so close)

  2. The Van Daans are a good couple together they are nice and like to help people in different situations. The Franks are very good people but Mr.Dussel is very mean and he thinks he's all that. There is a lot of tenison because Mr.Dussel is mean to Anne and thinks she is the boss of Anne and thinks she can tell her whatever he wants and control her. Van Daans are good people but they just dont want to stay there just want to leave and stay on there own and Mr. Van Daan just wants cigarettes.I think the only bond is that Annes family is close together and help each other and are nice. They are also said that she has the share the bed with Mr.Dussel.

  3. I think that the Van Daans are a very bad couple because Mr. Van Daan is addicted to smoking and criticizes almost everything and Mrs. Van Daan is Flirting with Mr. Frank, trying to waste all their money in every way and, just doesn't stop saying "ohhhhh i wish i met you Mr. Frank before i met that one." I think that dussel hates everyone he is living with especially peter and Anne because dussel always tells peter he hates his cat and says mean things to peter alot. Mr. and Mrs, Frank are a loving couple who so far in the story have never had an argument, however Mrs. Frank is very sad that Anne does not like her. There is alot of tension between everyone. I think the people in the story who have made the strongest bond is Anne and Mr.Frank. i think Anne should spend less time with her dad and some time with her mom, i am starting to think Anne and Mr. Frank are way too close. :)

  5. Lilia Tokadzhyan: Mrs. and Mr. Van Daan usually argue together and they always embarrass Peter. I think the Van Daans do not enjoy sharing their spaces with Mr. Dussel because he always is complaining and does not like to spend time with the rest of the people living in the attic with him. Mr. and Mrs. Frank are always trying to make peace in the house, but Anne is always happy and excited. . . There are some times where they are all happy, but there are always other times when there is a lot of tension. So far they are all slowly starting to bond together for example: Anne and Peter's first long conversation when they actually understand each other. Also Anne and her mother are not that close, but it seems that they will become very close at the end of this story. . . I think they will all stay together.

  6. After reading Act I, we notice that Anne and Peter are getting along, and understand each other. There is tension, because Mr. Dussel is incomprehensible and doesn't quite understand others. Mr. and Mrs. Van Daan always embarass Peter. On the other hand, Mr. and Mrs. Frank are always conherant and try to make everyone get along. I think Mr. Frank and Anne have the strongest bond throughout all the people in hiding. But, I do believe that if Peter is more social, just how he was when having a long conversation with Anne, he will form a strong bond with Anne as well.

  7. Amy H: Well Mr. Frank is very friendly towards the van daans and Mr. Dussel. Although Mr. Dussel is not so friendly towards the van daans, like peter, he is annoyed by Anne when he sleeps, and wants to go back to his tools. The van daans are very greedy and going for money and all about the fur coat which shows nothing but unfriendly personalities. There is much to worry and in matter of fact they have tension throughout feelings, thoughts, and in there time present actions. ( The thief might tell on them if captured) Anne and peter are getting much closer than before ( <3) PEter begins to be much nicer and more caring than before.

  8. I think the Van Daans relationship is totally different from the Franks relationship. The Van Daans don't seem like they aare into each other as much as the Franks. The franks love each other while Mrs. Van Daan is always hitting on Mr. Frank, ignoring Mr. Van Daan. With Dussel in the Secret Annex now they are having more and more problems including food, his roomate Anne, and causing some problems and making negative remarks. There is much tension in the house and many problems. I think that the Van Daans are drifting apart while Peter and Anne are closer than ever. They are and aren't getting along so well. they are use to having each other around and i think that is causing tension and causing problems. I think that the bonds between everyone except for peter and Anne are growing weak while Anne and Peter have a strong bond.

  9. After reading act one I think that everyone is getting along, but their are some arguments along the way. Anne and her father have a very close bond with each other and Mr. Frank tries to make Anne like her mother more. Mr Dussel is also usually grumpy and shares a room with Anne. Mrs. Frank and Anne are also fighting with each other. I think that every one besides Peter and Anne are not getting along. Peter and Anne now share a closer relationship as they get to know each other better.

  10. I think after we read act one the Van Daans are very interesting people, the Franks are very kind and Mr. Dussel is a frump. There is one thing that bad about Mr. Van Daan that he is addicted to smoking. Anne and Mrs. Frank always fight with each other. Peter and Anne have a good relationship together and Anne and Mr. Dussel are sharing rooms with each other.

  11. After reading Act 1, we find out about the bond Anne and her father have towards eachother, and how Anne isn't the person she always seems to be. We see a very emotional side of her in a scene specifically portraying her feelings about herself, and why she acts the way she does around people... There's little shift in tension between the household in this Act... but I'm pretty sure,(almost positive), that there will be more drama between the Van Daans & the Franks later.

  12. After reading Act 1, we find out a little more about the two families and their personalities. The Van Daans and the Franks are both caring and helpful families, but the families still have some differences because Mr. and Mrs. Frank love each other, while Mrs. Van Daan is going off and trying to hit on Mr. Frank in a funny way, ignoring Mr. Van Daan. Now that Mr. Dussel moved in, some tension has been growing about if there is enough food for everyone and who will share a room with him. Later, they decide that Anne will share a room with Mr. Dussel, which causes more tension for Mr. Dussel, when he gets annoyed from Anne's noises at night. Also, we find out that Anne's and Peter's bond is getting stronger.

  13. The relationship between them all in the annex has become more tense specially when dussel decided to join the 2 crowded families.dussel is very annoyed of anne because she makes noises in her sleep. there is some tension between them all, but now peter and anne are getting along very well but mrs van daan does not like it at all and she thinks shes losing peter to anne. Anne and her father have a very strong bond at this point and she always goes to him for help, and her mom is offended. There is on and off tension between all of them.

  14. I think the Van Daans are a bad couple because Mrs. Frank made a big deal when Anne spilled milk on her coat, and Mr. Van Daan smokes a lot. Mr. and Mrs. Frank care for there families and their daughter of course. Mr. Van Daan also released Peter's cat.

  15. The relationships of the inhabitants of the secret annex have grown closer, but at the same time they are losing hope in their hiding place. Peter and
Anne have grown closer and now deal with problems together. The Frank and van Dan family now agree more than they argue and still come to despise dussel.
