Hello 8th Grade Students!

  1. I liked the poem by Pablo Neruda. What i found most interesting in this poem was that in this poem the author used different languages to say thank you. In this poem it was talking about things like "Thanks to the word that says thanks!
Thanks to thanks, word that melts iron and snow!"
However there was a part that i did not understand it was "the daggers of pride take cover"

  2. i enjoyed the elegy by Whitman, because it was the most interesting and had an actual history behind it. i found the metaphor for the assassination of Abraham Lincoln very interesting. the history behind the elegy had more meaning to me than the metaphor did

  3. I liked the poem by pablo neruda because it was talking about the word thanks and it was telling us in different languages in german, french, spanish which are danke, merci, gracias, and in russian spasibo, I think that the word thanks has a big meaning in life that if you just say the word thanks when someone helps you or do something it has a big meaning it can make frienship or destroy friendship.

  4. I liked the poem we read by Pablo Neruda because it was a poem about saying "thanks" and how it affects people, also how it is important. The part that was very interesting was when the author was saying the word "thanks" in many different languages, like in german, french, and spanish. The one sentence that had the most meaning for me was, "Thanks to the word that says thanks," because the author is explaining how we should thanks to the people or person who says thanks.

  5. If I could chose my favorite poem/elegy out of these 3 that are all amazingly well written in their own way; I think I'd have to probably go with the elegy by Walt Whitman. I really enjoyed this poem specifically the most because of its historic background and its interestingly meaningful use of words. I also like how this poem is more in touch with the cold reality of truth rather than in comparison with the other two which are more in the position of a happy more uplifting tone. Other than this; I look at all of them in a different light.

  6. In my opinion i like Walt Whitemans elegy the best because it tells you how strong and brave President Lincoln was and from this poem you can tell Walt Whiteman was a supporter for Lincoln.
It is a beautiful poen and is very fun to red.

  7. I enjoyed reading the sonnet by John Keats. It really expressed the meaning of true beauty. Especially in the lines that said, "The poetry of earth is never dead" and "The poetry of earth is ceasing never". I understood that the beauty of nature will never die out and no matter what season it is, earth will always be beautiful!

  8. My favorite poem that we read was an Ode to Thanks by Pablo Neruda. The reason that i like this poem out of all of them is because, it helped everyone understand that the word THANKS is such a great meaningful, and powerful word that it was just breathe taking. But the fact that it also states that the word thanks might not always solve your problems, its a great word to always say and keep in the back of your mind!

  9. The poem i learned most from was Ode to Thanks by Pablo Neruda. Just the word thank you, can make someone feel appreciated and very respected. When you thank someone it means that you are grateful for their favor. Saying thank you to a friend, who helped you study for your english words, will let them know that their favor wasn't a waste and they really helped you. i also thought the italian sonnet was very creative and i enjoyed its inner meaning, of how the poetry of earth never dies... earths beauty shall never fade :)

  10. My favorite poem was Ode to Thanks by Palo Neruda. The reason I like it so much is because a small word like thanks or thank you is a very powerful world and can change the world and how the people look at it. . . When someone says thank you to another person it doesn't matter how mean or negative the person is he/she WILL say "you are welcome" back. I think this poem states that thanks is a beautiful word and can mean the world to someone. But, thank you cannot fix the things you mess up; it can just lighten up the problem. Just like in the poem "thanks" is a worldwide word. In French: merci`, in Spanish: denada, and in Russian: Spasiba. "Thanks" will always be a powerful world.

  11. I cannot say which one I liked the most because it is a very tough decision. I liiked all of the poems equally, but the one by Walt Whitman waS the most honorable and respective to me because it is honoring Abe Lincoln's hard work, dedicatiion and determination.

  13. My favorite poem out of the ones we read this week would have to be "Ode to Thanks" by Pablo Neruda. I think that he truly expressed what a big impact a single word can make. A really good example of this is when he said "thanks melts iron and snow." I also liked that he included the word thanks in other languages (spasibo, gracias, danke).
